This ongoing series of acrylic paintings have compositions which were software generated. My custom software tool uses fairly simple algorithms to create large numbers of randomized compositions, which are then human-reviewed and favorites chosen. For these particular paintings I deconstructed photographs according to color range and fed the parts to the software. By choosing particular algorithms and compositions, I leaned towards creating art that did not necessarily look computer generated. The final output is hand-painted on canvas (not printed), however the paint has been handled in such a way as to betray their true origins. I find interesting in these a conflict with the source of spiritual creativity in abstract painting - was the spark created by man or machine?
