Teletext KISS

I participated in a project organized by Paul B. Davis, where he asked artists to make content for a television broadcast. Many were involved to make the project a success, all of which is explained/archived at the VBI Microtel site. The submitted pieces were broadcast for a week all over the Netherlands via the NOS TV Network. The content shown was not video, but static teletext pictures! To make a long story short, teletext is a 1970's digital TV signal specification that provides a very limited resolution and only 8 possible colors. This digital signal is communicated inside the traditional TV analog signal by being concealed in the non-visual VBI section.

These minimalist versions of the 4 KISS solo album covers were made into teletext and shown. At the time I was playing around with the idea that only a minimal piece of information is required to communicate a much larger piece of culture. In this case, we only need 1 color and a hair line to adequately reference the world of KISS!
