Drawing Explaint

This is a drawing by instruction, a light piece which is a nod to Sol LeWitt's instructional painting and drawing pieces (incidentally he died since I did this), perhaps even a purposeful counter to Sol's heavy formalist approach. Also is a slight nod to Matthew Barney's nod to the 1960's process art movement which is prevalent in his work, and if you don't get the bad word pun then too bad as I'm going to restrain from explaining. So anyway these drawing instructions made by me, were meant for someone else to interpret and carry out. Travis Egedy, an artist and friend of mine, gave it a try for a drawing show and his results were fantastic. I won't publish any photographs of his version, to eliminate any influences on the reader's own personal interpretations.

----------------------------

*hello
*print out 5 sheets of standard printer paper 8-1/2 x 11 inches
*only 3 of these shall contain printed information, the other 2 are blank
*the information printed on those 3 pages can be anything at all, emails, sites, pages, pics, spam, anything
*(1)1 of these blank ones is folded in half, then half again, then unfolded
*(2)1 of these blank ones is left as is - empty and unaltered
*(3)1 of these non-blank ones should have marks added to it using a colored pen or marker:
{
    *marks of a circular nature
    *at least 20 such marks
    *untidy yet ordered
    *in the middle of this operation, call someone on your cell phone
    {
        *ask them this: do you love cheese
        *write their answer on the paper
        *ask them this: do you love butter
        *write their answer on the paper
        *write only part of their cell number on the paper, backwards, with at least 1 dash included
    }
    *now draw a dog or an alien or a tree or don't draw anything else
    *if you drew a dog then now draw a tree if you feel like it
    *if you drew a tree make at least 10 random marks near the dog drawing
    *if you drew an alien then draw a halo over the head but only if its a girl alien
    *do not draw a beer can
}
*(4)1 of these non-blank ones should have marks added to it using a pencil:
{
    *when writing just write freely, nothing too stylized or difficult
    *write my name like this: (stephe reid)(steven reede)
    *write out a list of household items which are often used on sundays
    *this list can be as short or long as desired, but no more than 27 items
    *if you go more than 13 items then write another list containing 5 types of shells
    *if you feel like it, then write your name backwards
    *if you don't feel like it, draw a toilet
    *if you are wearing shoes, then draw a curved random free line that is at least 36 inches in length
    *if you are tired of doing these activities then stop
    *if you are not tired then put 3 more things on the paper, anything at all
}
*(5)1 of these non-blank ones should have marks added to it using a rubber chicken:
{
    *if a rubber chicken is unavailable, then instead use a fork
    *take the fork and drag it across assertively such that holes, cuts, or scratches occur
    *if you don't feel like doing that, then instead take any substance whatsoever
    *and then use that substance to cover up at least 66% of the paper surface
    *if you don't feel like doing that, then do nothing to this sheet of paper
}
*install these 5 papers in the gallery:
{
    *the papers should be directly fastened to the wall using basic pins or needles or clips
    *the 2 blank papers should be installed low at about calf level
    *the 2 blank papers should be at least 6 inches apart from each other
    *and at most 2 feet from each other
    *2 of the non-blank papers should be installed at 'normal' eye-level height
    *the 2 non-blank papers should be installed adjacent to each other (touching side by side)
    *1 of the non-blank papers should be installed wherever and however the installer desires
    *as long as its within 12 feet of the other papers
}
*if at any point these instructions seem irritating, then pause and call someone on the phone
*if at any point these instructions seem too specific or too general, then improvise
*thank you for drawing
